Running PatternMaker on the Mac

Because there is no version of PatternMaker native to the Apple OS, PatternMaker must be run in a special program that provides the same underlying support as Windows. In simple terms, you need to run the Windows version in a Windows-like environment on the Mac. This is accomplished by using a Mac Program called PlayOnMac. PlayOnMac is free.

Once PlayOnMac is installed, there are series of steps to install PatternMaker. We provide the steps below along with screenshots.

The following procedure installs PatternMaker and MacroGenerator. PatternMaker is the primary program. MacroGenerator is an auxillary program. You can learn about the differences here.

Open PlayOnMac and click on "Install a Program" or on the Plus sign above "Install".

In the next window type "PatternMaker" in the search field. See below.

Click on PatternMaker to highlight the item and then click on Install. See below.

Click on Next. See below.

Click on Yes. See below.

For first-time installation, choose Create virtual disk or the like. Otherwise, choose Overwrite or Erase. See below.

Click on Yes. See below.

Wait for PatternMaker to be downloaded. See below.

Ignore the following error and click on No. See below.

Accept the Agreement and click on Next. See below.

Choose Full Installation and click on Next. See below.

Accept the default values in the field for location. See below.

Select All user profiles. Click on Next. See below.

Accept the Agreement. Click on Next. See below.

Accept the default destination and click Next. See below.

Select Full Installation and click on Next. See below.

Select the default Start Menu folder and click Next. See below.
